A young Australian mother welcomed a baby girl with two faces on Thursday, May 8. Surprisingly, the miracle baby is actually an incredibly rare case of conjoined twins — in which they share a body but have two different brains inside one skull.
Even though the girls are the picture of health, their rare condition means they will face a number of challenges as they continue to grow.
Their rare condition, diprosopus, was discovered during an ultrasound when Renee was just 19 weeks pregnant. The condition has only been documented in medical history a total of 35 times, with just 16 of those cases in the past 15 years.Faith and Hope will be seen by multiple different specialists as their parents try to prepare for what their future holds. For now, the baby girls are healthy, happy, and eager to be taken home by their proud parents.
“We have no idea how long they will be in hospital,” Simon shared excitedly. “We just want to bring them home, happy and healthy to make our family a little bit bigger and a bit more chaotic.”
