Olusegun Mimiko: A story of a desperation - Oluwatidamilare

Nigeria is a land of impunity. We really lack honourable people, forget the ones calling themselves so. There seems to be no honourable in the land, or may be, I am too harsh in my judgement, so, I will say the few honourable people we have in this nation cannot be found among the ruling class. The press was agog last week with the returning of the Ondo State governor, Olusegun Mimiko to the ruling party, People Democratic Party, PDP from Labour Party he laboured to sustained and gain political prominence. Although, tongues have been wagging for a long time that Mimiko is a puppet of the PDP. He has robust relationship with the presidency, especially to thwart the efforts of the opposition party, All Progressive Congress, APC, who has gained momentum in the South-West. We should not forget that Mimiko was made in PDP and likeminded, he can never prove to be different as his people in Ondo State have come to know after giving him second term mandate, he was a Federal Minister during Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.

Mimiko fell out with PDP because he was not chosen as the governorship candidate of the party in 2007 general election. He left with annoyance and found solace in Labour Party. He contested the election and won, merely by solidarity. He was shown the almighty power of the Federal Government when his mandate was given to the incumbent governor, Olusegun Agagu. Mimiko ran to the opposition politicians, like Bola Tinubu and other prominent Nigerians who are concerned with the affairs of this nation. Mimiko was helped to get back his mandate but it wasn’t long that he grew wings and started to carry himself as invincible. Was he? The latest action by him buttresses the fact that he is not a principled man and lacks integrity we desire from our leaders. Sometimes, it pains me to see these people at the helms of power disappointing the Nigerians. Most times, some of them show flashes that raise our hope but unfortunately, they know how to dimple our spirit.
While I know he has the right of association but if we look deeply into his motive, we shall see a politician is self-centre, selfish and insecure. He knows his administration is about to end, meaning, he will be out of government and there may not inflow of political money and it is now. He knows where his bread would be buttered, he is very smart in this regard but it is not meant for the honourables.
