Ebola: US survivor’s full statement

Dr BrantlyDr. Kent Brantly released the following statement upon his release from Emory University Hospital:
“Today is a miraculous day. I am thrilled to be alive, to be well and to be reunited with my family. As a medical missionary, I never imagined myself in this position. When my family and I moved to Liberia last October to begin a two-year term working with Samaritan’s Purse, Ebola was not on the radar. We moved to Liberia because God called us to serve the people of Liberia.
“In March, when we got word that Ebola was in Guinea and had spread to Liberia, we began preparing for the worst. We didn’t receive our first Ebola patient until June, but when she arrived, we were ready. During the course of June and July, the number of Ebola patients increased steadily, and our amazing crew at ELWA Hospital took care of each patient with great care and compassion. We also took every precaution to protect ourselves from this dreaded disease by following MSF and WHO guidelines for safety.

'I never went to university' - billionaire Folorunsho Alakija admits

One of Africa's richest women and chairman of Famfa Oil, Mrs Folorunsho Alakija yesterday August 27th revealed that she never went to a university, saying one does not need a university education to make it in life. Mrs Alakija said this while speaking with students of the University of Lagos during the 2014 UN International Youths Day in Lagos.

"I come from Ikorodu, Lagos state. I am married to a dashing young lawyer of 70 years of age and we have four grown up gentlemen and grandchildren. It has not been a rag to riches fairytale. It has not been an overnight phenomenon like some cases which you find here and there all over the world. For as long as I can remember, I had always wanted my own business. Hard work...am trying to tell you how I got to where I am if you want those billions. Hard work, diligence, persistence...days where you nearly gave up but I chose not to give up."

Obj meets GEJ over Boko Haram

The activities of the Islamic terrorist group, Boko Haram must have prompted the reluctant President Jonathan to invite the former president, Olusegun Obasanjo to a closed door meeting. Obj has commenced personal meeting with the hotshots of the group from May, though, he had called for the use of force against the insurgent for years with no regards from the Jonathan presidency. It could be recalled that the president disregard the call on Channel Television, challenging Obasanjo on the achievement of such in a town in his State.

The Special Adviser to the president on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati confirmed the meeting but declined to give the detail, claiming only the two leaders can disclose their discussion, though, the subject still remains on security.

The Former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, held a closed-door meeting following high rate of insecurity in the country, occasioned by the Boko Haram insurgency. The problem appears to be getting out of control with terrorists capturing Gwoza, and declaring it an Islamic caliphate.
The meeting was held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on the invitation of President Jonathan.
Chief Obasanjo, who confirmed his meeting with the President shortly after he arrived Abeokuta from Abuja, yesterday, said the meeting was  purely on security matters.
