Tambuwal: What is good for PDP is good is good for other parties

It was speculated for a while, he seemed to be fed up, and he talked like a rare Nigerian politician when he commended the opposition parties. The Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives finally decamped from People Democratic Party, PDP to All Progressive Congress, APC on Tuesday, October 28, 2014. It was a political risk only time would tell if it is worth taking for the Speaker. His move has not really gone down well with his former political associates, he was asked to relinquish the position he occupies
. They postulate that the honourable step for him is to step down as the Speaker of the House of Representatives. The PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh has been vocal in his call, arguing that the ruling party still has the majority members in the House. It could be a valid argument in a clime where such has not happened before. Recently, the incumbent Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko decamped from the Labour Party to PDP. The Ondo Governor like Tambuwal still holds the mandate given to him through his former party and the Olisa Metuhs of this world has not find logic in it to tell Mimiko to resign. The same has happened before Mimiko, where some Governors left the party through which they get the people’s mandate to another, example is Murtala Nyako, though, PDP set him up and finally found way to remove him through impunity. That is a story that has been told by many and its consequence is the instability we have in our nation.
I would not subscribe to double standard as much as I dislike how these politicians flirt around different parties because of their selfish interest. This comes to show why we should rise against anomalies in our society. We live in a terrain where the winner takes all and anything is valid so far you can be the winner. The PDP should not make a mountain out of molehill, it is the impunity we have come to live with, but I still crave for change. However, we cannot have this change if not enshrined in our constitution. There is law guiding us but it not effective. As for those who live above the law, it is very pathetic. The APC should not think it has got a big fish, no one can tell the political calculation in Nigeria. It is a fact that our politicians are very selfish and fake with their selfless postures
Tambuwal’s colleagues at the House have lent their support to the speaker, saying his defect to APC did not contravene the constitution. The Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Victor Oghene, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, said the Speaker is a Speaker for all Nigerians and not for a political party. PDP should just let Tambuwal go and face the reality of life of not having Speaker in the House for the remainder of this administration.
